Today was a jammed back day of traveling and walking. We set off at 10:00 from the hotel lobby to lug all of our stuff to Kings cross station to get on a train to Paris. The fast speeding train got us to France in no time with most of the group sleeping the entire way.
When we finally get to our hotel in Paris and professor Kim gives us some time to grab some food before our long walking night of sightseeing.
The first place we stopped at was the world famous and very significant Sorbonne University of Paris. This was the birthplace for the modern Olympics. It’s where Pierre de Coubertin and rest of Olympic committee had to decide on rules, regulations, and each part of the games in Athens. Paris was decided the meeting spot and everyone from around the world traveled here where the fist international Olympic committee was form. This building was where the Modern Olympic Games truly originated in 1894 and it was awesome to be able to be there.
Next we moved on to the Notre Dame Cathedral where we saw the church without its world famous spire. We then moved on to the banks of the Seine River, Pont Neuf, Shakespeare and company store and the Louvre. We then made our way over to the Champs-Elysees were you could see the Arc de Triomphe where some of us enjoyed a warm crepe and pastries.
We then set off to our final destination for the night. The PSG - Dijon match at Parc de Princes. This was a really awesome time. I was never a huge soccer fan and never really got into it but this game definitely made me see why people are so passionate about it. We got to see world famous players all compete for the league one title. It’s crazy how invested the fans are and how some will stand, yell, jump, and beat the drum for every second of the game. It was also awesome to see the presentation of the trophy and all the lights, fireworks, cheering, and music that came with it. Interesting to hear that all the music was English even though most people here only speak French but I guess they must just like our music more. After a long day it was the perfect end and definitely made me more of a soccer fan.
